We require an enthusiastic, dedicated and friendly male and female as a Resident Assistant for a cluster condominium adjacent to our Boarding School, to ensure the ongoing provision of a warm, caring and safe environment for our boarders.

 

This is a live-in position. In return for approximately 20 hours' work, during the week and weekends and with some prep supervision on weeknights, the Resident Assistant receives a room, bathroom and all meals, Internet access, a phone plus $75 stipend per week.

 

Resident Assistants supervise the students in the Junior Suits on a rostered basis for weeknight and weekend. Resident Assistants may live in the Junior Suites for the duration of the time they are employed at the school and do not need to leave during school holidays. The resorts sporting facilities such as tennis courts, golf course and fitness center are available for use by the residential staff through a reservation process.

 

The successful applicant will be self-motivated and friendly, with compassion for adolescents and an awareness of the responsibility attached to the duty of care of the boarders. The RA's will have or be prepared to obtain first aid certification and to complete child protection awareness training, both of which can be organized through the school.

 

 

 

 

Job Description

 

Reports to: the Student Services Coordinator (SSC) & Director of Curriculum & Student Services (DCSS)

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • College graduate, with a minimum age of 23.
  • Previous experience supervising teenage students in a supervisory role.
  • Desire and willingness to assist in the residential boarding program at SPS.
  • Willingness to live in adjacent room from SPS student-athletes.
  • Motor vehicle license and a clean driving record.

 

 

 

 

Accountabilities

 

The Primary role of the RA's on duty (30 hours per week) is to supervise the physical, emotional and spiritual development of the students under their care. This requires those on duty to:

  • Know the whereabouts of all students 'comings and goings after school and on weekends is essential to securing each student-athlete.
  • Actively supervise the students, and walk around the clusters  at least once every 30 minutes whilst on duty
  • Attend meals in the dining room at the school when on duty; this includes lunch and dinner on the weekends and dinner during the weekdays.
  • Supervise Study Hall periods (Monday Wednesday) 7:30 9:00 PM
  • Ensure that the duty roster for cleanliness checks for student rooms is adhered to, and enforce tidiness in all areas of the junior suites. All students should be encouraged to clean up after themselves- and maintain a clean living space.
  •  RA's must work together as part of a team and communicate between staff at all levels. All staff are encouraged to support each other's decisions and be consistent in their dealings with the students.
  • Help maintain discipline of students in the dormitories (junior suites). Discuss disciplinary action for the students with the SSC's and DCSS.
  • The resident assistants are not to hand out any disciplinary consequences, instead they are to report disciplinary issues to the SSC or DCSS.
  • Report any damages, immediately, that occur in the dormitories (junior suites). The damages must be written up and given to the DCSS & SSC's so the students can be charged accordingly
  • No student can leave property without the Director of Curriculum & Student Services', or the Head Master's permission- the SSC will communicate with boarding staff regarding student absences from boarding.
  • RA's who use the Saddlebrook mini-van for doctor trips must ensure that the mini-van is clean, and the log book for each trip is filled out accordingly.
  • When on duty, attend dances, in house soccer matches, excursions, etc. with the students and arrange on-campus activities for the students. Attend important Boarder functions such as the orientation at the beginning of the school year, parent's weekend, the awards ceremony and graduation.
  • Make note of any information of any unusual event in order to assist those coming on duty. For example, sickness, medications, visitors, late arrivals, etc.

Being observant and noting behaviors of each student-athlete is a very important responsibility you hold in this position.

  • Keep the Student Services Coordinators fully aware of any problems or issues that arise, ASAP.
  • Report any maintenance items they notice to the Student Services Coordinator(s).
  • When on duty, be available at the beginning and end of each term, including travel days, to assist the Student Services Coordinators in preparing rooms for the students.
  • Adhere to the Saddlebrook Prep School Code of Ethics. A friendly, courteous and reliable manner is expected of all staff.

 

 

Specific Requirements

  • A mature and sensible manner, with particular attention to punctuality, appropriate dress and behavior
  • A current First Aid Certification
  • Knowledge of the evacuation fire drill procedures of the RA's cluster must be known and Hurricane procedures set for the by the resort adhered to.
  • Read, understand, sign and submit the Saddlebrook Code of Professional Conduct and Protocol form.
  • Sleep in the Junior Suites during term time, to monitor student actions.
  • Keep your own living area clean and tidy, to set an example for students.
  • Saddlebrook is a smoke-free environment, and smoking is not permitted on the premises. RA's must report any smoking to the SCC and/or DCSS.
  • Resident Advisors are expected to live on-property in a private room in the student condo dormintory.
  • RA's are expected work evening hours (starting at 5 PM on weekdays).
  • Must be available, and willing, to drive the students off-property for necessary trips in small and mid-sized resort vehicles.
  • RA's are expected to maintain a team-oriented attitude and maintain positive and professional interactions with the entire boarding staff and student body.
